As the only church in Fairway, Old Mission was easy to find when Charlotte Christiansen moved to the area in 1974 and started looking for a church. Old Mission’s Nursery Coordinator has watched her own granddaughters grow up here. Today Charlotte’s grandmotherly love extends far beyond her own family, encompassing all the church’s wee ones in the nursery.
Through the room’s glass windows, you’ll find the 30-year member of Old Mission rocking, reading books and playing games with little ones on Sunday mornings. She might help a school-aged child with homework on a weeknight while parents attend meetings, rehearsals and special events. The Kansas City native makes sure the nursery is staffed for church events and coordinates schedules for both volunteer and paid nursery workers.
It is “the precious children” that she enjoys most about her ministry. However, she’s also quick to note that the church’s excellent childcare center, variety of Sunday School classes and many ministry areas in which to serve are also reasons that Old Mission has remained her church home for so many years.
