Amy Reed

As a young mom wanting just the right care for her son, Amy Reed found Old Mission because of its exceptional childcare program. The church’s Director of Children’s Ministries had heard a lot of good things about the Early Education Center, so when her family started looking for daycare, they toured the church and its facilities.

“We had this feeling of it being a warm, caring and loving environment,” Amy says. “That’s really what helped us to choose Old Mission as a place for our family.” She loved that meals were served family style, teaching kids social skills and manners. Theatre groups would come and perform for the kids, they’d take field trips to a pumpkin patch, and children would perform holiday programs for their parents.

“Old Mission is a special place where young and old can come and learn and grow in their faith,” Amy says. “My children have attended Sunday School at Old Mission and the programs teach them that Jesus loves them and will always be with them. My husband and I also attend an adult Sunday School class that allows us to question and grow in our faith walk. Old Mission has provided an environment within the church that has allowed our family to grow in the love of Jesus Christ. Because of this nurturing environment, we are now able to take what we have learned and apply it outside the doors of Old Mission. That is what Jesus intended — making disciples among many and spreading the word of God.”

Amy makes sure the children of Old Mission feel at home, both spiritually and socially. Parents know what their kids are learning about each week in Sunday School thanks to Amy’s Children’s Newsletter which runs monthly in The Messenger. You’ll find her planning the Sunday School curriculum, organizing the teacher’s appreciation breakfast and helping to present the church’s third-graders with their very own Bibles, among other things.

More fun facts about Amy:

What’s your favorite food?

I love Mexican food and my mom’s chocolate sheet cake.

As a child, what did you want to be when you “grew up”?

I always thought I would be a nurse, like my mom, or a teacher.

For fun I enjoy….

Reading, running, spending quality time with my family.

What is your idea of a perfect day?

Spending time with my family and laughing and having a great time no matter the location.

Tell us about your family…

My husband Justin and I met in college and have been married for 12 years. Harrison, our son, is fun loving and has a very tender heart.  He enjoys playing the piano and playing outside. Lillian, our daughter, is full of personality and you can hear her coming a mile away. She has a great spirit that makes you want to laugh and have fun right along side her. She loves singing and playing dress-up.
